The President of the Assembly of the Republic will receive the Portuguese MEPs recently elected to the European Parliament in Parliament on Thursday and will hold a meeting of the new MEPs with the chairmen of the various parliamentary committees.
According to an official source in the Parliament, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco will first receive the elected MEPs, 21 in total, in the auditorium of the Assembly of the Republic, and then, at 15:00, the meeting will take place in the Senate chamber.
“In the context of the inaugural session of the European Parliament scheduled for 16 July [na próxima terça-feira]In Strasbourg, this meeting aims to promote cooperation and analysis of topics of common interest between the Assembly of the Republic and the European Parliament in the new legislative body,” the statement said.
In the same note, in order to underline the objective of this initiative, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco stresses the importance of “the work of all parliamentary committees within the framework of the monitoring of European affairs by the Assembly of the Republic”.
In the European Parliament elections on 9 June, the PS elected eight MEPs, the Democratic Alliance seven, Chega two, the Liberal Initiative two, the Bloc de Esquerda one and the CDU one.
