The President of the Republic announced the extension of support for professional diesel until August

According to a statement published on the presidential website, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced on Tuesday the extension of the support mechanism for professional diesel fuel until August 31.

“The President of the Republic has published a government diploma extending the validity of the emergency professional diesel mechanism provided for by Decree-Law No. 43-A/2022 of July 6, for the relevant deliveries that take place between July 1 and December 31, 2024,” the statement said.

At the beginning of the month, the government decided to extend the temporary support mechanism for professional diesel fuel until August 31. This measure amounts to about eight million euros per month.

In a statement, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing and Communal Services emphasized that “as part of measures to mitigate the rise in fuel prices,” it will maintain “the mechanism for partial reimbursement of the tax on oil and energy products (ISP), supported by the transportation of goods for third parties.”

This measure, which amounts to “monthly support of around eight million euros,” was defined in 2022 “as a response to the rise in fuel prices due to the conflict in Ukraine,” he recalled.

“Since the reasons justifying the measure in question remain partially extended, the diploma, aimed at meeting the specific conditions of this transport sector, covers eligible deliveries that take place between 1 July and 31 August 2024,” the trusteeship stressed.

Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz, quoted in the same article, wanted to emphasize the “commitment of the government and the guardianship bodies to decarbonization.”

However, he believes that “this decision is a response to the pressure that rising costs still put on value chains.”
