The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, mourned this Friday the death of two Portuguese people in an industrial accident in Switzerland, expressing his condolences to their families and the entire Portuguese community.
“President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the two compatriots who were victims of an industrial accident in Prilly, Switzerland, as well as to the entire Portuguese community in this country, with whom he celebrated Portugal Day last June. Camões and Portuguese Communities,” reads a note on the official website of the President of the Republic.
The Portuguese head of state “regrets the death of compatriots in Switzerland” in an accident caused by falling scaffolding, which also injured eight other people whose nationality has not yet been established.
A Foreign Ministry source told Lusa that two Portuguese were among four people killed in an accident at a construction site in the Swiss city of Lausanne.
Most of the workers on site are Portuguese and Albanians.
The area around the accident was closed off and 180 people were on site, including police, firefighters, rescuers and psychologists.
The scaffolding, which was part of the construction of a 19-storey, 60-metre-high building, collapsed at around 09:25 local time (08:25 Lisbon time).
