The crimes took place last year in Amadora. The sexual predator was unemployed, lived in his mother’s house and took advantage of his proximity to the underage neighbours to rape both of them, now aged nine. The relationship of trust was such that the parents allowed the children to go to the predator’s house after school – they believed that the 23-year-old was simply helping with their homework. The girls were forced to touch the predator’s penis and one was forced to perform oral sex. One of the crimes was filmed by the accused, who has now been sentenced to six years in prison. He will have to pay 52,000 euros in compensation to the two victims.
Each time the girls refused to perform sexual acts, the predator showed them the video. The girls, who were threatened and feared that the images would be shown to their parents, eventually gave in.
The girls’ report was crucial to the verdict. Antero Claro Gonçalves, a lawyer representing one of the victims, says justice has been done: “Doubts about the reality of the facts have been dispelled over the course of 10 court hearings, in which a wealth of evidence has been presented, all in one direction: confirmation of the practice by the facts.”
