ASAE (Agency for Food and Economic Security) announced this Wednesday the seizure of more than 645 thousand counterfeit products worth over 1.4 million euros following an action carried out in a warehouse in Vila do Conde, Harbour district.
According to the organization, the inspection was carried out as part of the “fight against violations of industrial property rights, namely illegal acts of counterfeiting, imitation and illegal use of trademarks,” as a result of which various types of products were seized.
“645,930 counterfeit goods were seized, namely sports equipment, clothing, accessories, perfumes, cosmetics, smart watches and airpods, and a corresponding criminal case was opened on the fact of illegal sale or concealment of products,” the report says.
ASAE estimated the value of the seized property at €1,462,973 and said “the suspect, who operated a warehouse with reserved access, [onde incidiu a operação] already has a history of this illegal practice.”
“Counterfeiting is a crime preceding money laundering, the latter being a crime of prevention and priority investigation. ASAE will continue to carry out inspection activities within its mandate throughout the country in order to protect market rules and free competition, and to protect industrial property rights,” the organization added.
