PSD leader Luis Montenegro said this Thursday that he expects “decisive steps” from the European Council to tackle the energy crisis in the European Union (EU), advocating the early establishment of a “direct assistance plan” for families and companies.
“I think it is very important that the European Council can take decisive steps in line with what the President of the Commission has said. [Ursula von der Leyen] already had the opportunity to announce, in the sense of having a common policy in the field of energy, in a spirit similar to that which Europe lived recently during the pandemic, during the vaccination plan, and also now in the approaching war in Ukraine,” said Luis Montenegro.
Speaking on the sidelines of the European People’s Party (EPP) summit in Brussels, which precedes the meeting of EU heads of government and state, the Social Democrat president said he hopes that this “spirit of solidarity, joint opportunities to face huge challenges” marks society’s response to energy crisis aggravated by the war in Ukraine.
