The President of Chega, André Ventura, on Thursday accused the President of the Assembly of the Republic and the PSD of trying to boycott the work of the commission of inquiry into the case of the twins who received the drug Zolgensma.
Speaking to reporters at the Assembly of the Republic, the Chegi leader complained about “an attempt to boycott the work of the investigation commission or at least to delay or hold it up.”
André Ventura’s statements came after the President of the Assembly of the Republic requested the opinion of the Attorney General’s Office after Chega, within the framework of the parliamentary commission of inquiry, requested access to the communications of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and after the PSD requested the suspension of all requests from individuals for access to recordings or copies of communications.
“We did not want to overlook the huge boycott that this represents of the work of the investigative committee, an attempt, at least apparent, to disrupt the work of the parliamentary investigation, when everyone knows and admits that the inquiry committees are special committees that have powers equal to those of the judiciary, and this is directly and clearly stated in the law,” he said.
“Both the President of the Assembly of the Republic and the PSD deputies contribute to the work of this commission of inquiry, making its life more difficult, more fragile and less effective,” he accused.
President Chegi noted that the request for access to the communications of the President of the Republic “has already been discussed in the committee” and stated that “those in the know can only convey the part that concerns the purpose of the committee.”
