The Secretary General of the PSD and leader of the parliamentary group, Hugo Soares, today seemed “absolutely convinced” that the state budget for 2025 (OE2025) will be viable, and called for “responsibility of the opposition parties”.
“I am absolutely sure and convinced that under the responsibility of the opposition parties, the continent, like Madeira, will also have a good budget, above all with one goal: to change and improve people’s lives,” he said.
Hugo Soares spoke to reporters upon arrival in Herdade do Chan da Lagoa, located in the mountainous outskirts of Funchal, where the annual PSD/Madeira party is taking place today.
“We’ll see who makes the budget viable on the continent,” he said, commenting on the fact that Chega made the Regional Government Program (RGP) viable for the legislature for 2024-2028, as well as the region’s 2024 budget, by abstaining from voting on the Legislative Assembly documents.
“We haven’t had a vote on the continent yet,” he warned.
On Friday, the government led by Social Democrat Luis Montenegro met with all opposition parties with seats in parliament under the 2025 state budget, with the exception of the PSD and SDS-PP, which cancelled their participation in this first round.
The Prime Minister was originally scheduled to attend these meetings. However, due to health reasons, Luis Montenegro has cancelled his attendance at all political events to date, including the PSD/Madeira party.
After the meeting on Friday, which took place at the prime minister’s official residence in Sao Bento, Lisbon, Chegi President André Ventura said the party was serious about negotiations on the next state budget and said he sensed “positive sentiment” on the government’s side, but warned that “it is not possible to play on two boards.”
Today in Chao da Lagoa, the general secretary of the PSD recalled that during the first three months of the legislature, Chega emphasized the fact that its electoral program has similarities with that of the PS and “approved measures with the Socialist Party.”
“So I think it’s quite possible that the Chega program has ideas similar to other programs,” said Hugo Soares.
The Festa do Chão da Lagoa, considered the largest party event organized annually in the autonomous region, began at 8:00 am and continued until the end of the day, with several stalls organized by 54 parish political committees and other party structures, as well as about 40 stall owners.
Political speeches must take place between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm.
