Former US President Barack Obama said Sunday that Joe Biden had demonstrated “love of country” by dropping out of the presidential race, publicly praising him but not expressing support for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Joe Biden was one of the most powerful presidents the United States has ever seen, and a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we also remember — once again — that he is a patriot of the highest order,” Obama said in a note released today.
“I know Joe has never backed down from a fight. For him to look at the political landscape and make the decision to hand over testimony to a new candidate is certainly one of the biggest hardships of his life. But I know he would not have made that decision if he did not believe it was best for America. It is a testament to Joe Biden’s love for the country and a historic example of a true public servant who once again puts the interests of the American people ahead of his own interests,” he adds.
