President Cegi on Monday accused the PS of “behind-the-scenes actions” regarding the 2025 state budget, countering that his party “has everything in the open” and demanded measures for firefighters.
“We will continue, as we do today, to point out to the Government the paths that are important to us, that is, the issues that are decisive for us, and firefighters are one of them. That is why we also decided to come here today, so that the Government knows that everything is clear with us, no, contrary to what Pedro Nuno Santo seems to want to do, there are no behind-the-scenes moves or behind-the-scenes demands,” he stated.
The Chegi leader spoke to reporters ahead of a visit to the Portuguese Firefighters League in Lisbon.
“If you want frank and open negotiations, that’s what we want. If you want backroom deals with the PS, you can do that too, we know that it can also be approved that way. But that’s not the best way to do politics and I’m warning you too, the Prime Minister, dealing with the PS usually ends badly, but if the Prime Minister wants to take a risk and wants to go that way, in any case, don’t say we didn’t warn you,” he defended himself.
Ventura said Chega is “in good faith” in negotiations with the government over next year’s state budget, and stressed that what the party “demands in terms of housing, in terms of firefighters, in terms of security forces, is clear,” and labeled as “important.”
Before visiting the Firefighters’ League, President Çegi left one more demand: “We have to, especially because we are determined to approve the State Budget, leave now in the State Budget a guarantee that we will demand. to increase the hourly rate of firefighters, and we will also demand, although this is not a budget document, a definition in a specific diploma of the career of firefighters.”
