The Chegi MPs in the Azores Legislative Assembly asked the regional coalition government (PSD, CDS-PP and PPM) this Monday for an explanation about the alleged delays in the birth stimulation program called “Nascer Mais”, which has been in effect since 2022.
“If this measure is not respected and the competent public services take a long time to respond, we want to know why,” the Chegi MPs justify themselves in a request sent to the Azorean Parliament, recalling that “parents cannot pay for what they are entitled to.”
Chega, which elected five members to the Azores Legislative Assembly in the early regional legislative elections on February 4 (four more than in the 2000 regional legislative elections), says it has received “several complaints” about the existence of delays in the program, which provides support of 1,500 euros per child for the purchase of well-being and health products.
“Given that there are several complaints from parents who have not yet received answers about access for their children born in 2024, and that the Social Security Service cannot answer parents about when the program will be available to everyone, the Chega Parliamentary Group has sent a request to the Regional Assembly to question the government about these delays,” the party said in a statement.
The “Nascer Mais” program was created by the regional government at the suggestion of Chegi, but initially it only covered 12 of the 19 municipalities of the Azores (those that lost more than 5% of their population between 2011 and 2012), but the executive, led by social democrat José Manuel Bolheiro, subsequently decided to extend the measure to the entire region.
“The Chega parliamentarians also want to know when the Nascer Mais program will be applied in all municipalities of the Azores and what budget the regional government has allocated for this measure,” they insisted.
Chega also wants to know how many children and on which islands have already benefited from this incentive to have children on the archipelago.
