Study shows coronavirus infection may increase risk of diabetes

People who contract COVID-19 are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, which is considered one of the leading causes of heart disease, a North American study published on Tuesday found.

“Our results suggest that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes after contracting COVID-19 was not just an initial observation, but a real risk that unfortunately persisted during the Omicron option,” said Alan Kwan, cardiologist and study coordinator.

According to a specialist from the Smidt Heart Institute (SHI), owned by the American institution Cedars-Sinai, the published findings are “helping to better understand and prepare for the post-COVID-19 era” regarding the risk of cardiovascular disease. people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
