Miguel Pinto Luz, Minister of Infrastructure, announced this Wednesday in Parliament that the new concession contract for the construction of bridges over the Tagus in Lisbon will already include a third crossing to be built.
At a hearing of the Committee on Economy, Public Works and Housing, where he was asked about the concession of the 25 April and Vasco da Gama bridges in Lisbon, which is currently held by Lusoponte, the minister said that the end of the concession would come in 2030 and teams from the ministry are already working on a new concession contract and announced that it will cover the new bridge to be built in Lisbon (Chelas Barreiro).
“We already have teams working on a new concession that will include a third crossing of the Tagus,” the minister said.
Under a public-private partnership, Lusoponte (controlled by Mota-Engil and Vinci) is the concessionaire for two crossings of the Tagus River in Lisbon – the Vasco da Gama Bridge and the 25 de Abril Bridge – until March 2030.
In May, the government approved the construction of a new airport in the Lisbon area at Campo de Tiro de Alcochete, with the aim of completely replacing Humberto Delgado Airport.
He also decided to commission Infraestruturas de Portugal to complete studies for the construction of a third crossing of the Tagus and a high-speed rail link between Lisbon and Madrid.
