Chega to meet National Council on Friday to review Europe results

On Friday evening, Chega will meet with the National Council, the highest body between congresses, to analyse the results of the European elections and ratify membership in the European political group Patriots of Europe.

According to the appeal published on the party’s website, the agenda has three items: “analysis of the results of the European elections”; “integration into the European group”; “other items”.

The next meeting of the National Council of Chega will take place on Friday in the auditorium of the Orlando Ribeiro Library in Lisbon.

The 18th meeting of the National Council of Chega will begin at 9:00 p.m. Before the meeting, which will be held behind closed doors, party leader André Ventura will make statements to journalists.

In the European elections on June 9, Chega elected two MEPs: António Tangier Corrêa and Tiago Moreira de Sá.

Participating for the first time in elections of this type, the party did not achieve the goal set by André Ventura, who even aimed to overtake the PS and win these elections.

Earlier this month, Chega decided that the party’s elected representatives would join a new political group, Patriots of Europe, in the European Parliament, leaving the political family to which they belonged, Identity and Democracy.

Speaking to journalists at the time, André Ventura noted that the decision was taken by the National Directorate and that the National Council – the highest body between congresses – “only ratifies the decision.”
