CPI accepts insurance company’s PSD documentation, postpones complaint against mother of Portuguese-Brazilian twins

The chairman of the parliamentary commission investigating the twins’ case said on Thursday that the commission had accepted documentation provided by the SDP on Wednesday regarding the children’s mother’s insurance policy, putting aside “any complaint” from the mother.

“The commission has decided to accept this documentation, to consider it authentic,” Rui Paulo Sousa told reporters after a meeting of the commission and coordinators that preceded the hearings on the case of Francisco André, former chief of staff of former Prime Minister António Costa.

During the hearing of the President of the Republic’s consultant for social affairs, society and communities, Maria João Ruela, on Wednesday, the PSD coordinator, António Rodrigues, revealed that he had access to his mother’s policy – among other documents – noted with the participation of the Brazilian company Amil Assistência Médica Internacional.

António Rodrigues explained that he had access to “everything that was at stake regarding the insurance policy in Brazil and the lawsuit between the children’s mother and the insurance company” after the children’s mother’s lawyer, Wilson Bicalho, refused to hand over the documentation to a parliamentary commission of inquiry.

According to MP Chegi, the parties also decided to “insist that the twins’ mother also provide documents.”

“We are actually going to go to the court in Sao Paulo. The insurance company, the court and the mother of the twins will ask for this documentation because there may be some data that is not included in what we have now,” he said.

Having stated on Wednesday that the children’s mother would “definitely not be punished” for disobedience, the chairman of the parliamentary investigative commission confirmed this intention today.

“As we will insist on the request again, any complaints are postponed for now. We are going to insist again and inform Daniela Martins that she will have to respond,” he said, specifying that contact will be made through a lawyer.

At the beginning of the session, the deputies, with the PCP and Livre abstaining, approved the use and availability of the documentation provided by the SDP regarding the contract between the family and the insurance company and the legal proceedings.

The IL’s request to send to the commission the communications received by the Presidency of the Republic in June concerning requests for appointments and consultations, which were sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of being false, was also approved.

The commission also requested documentation related to the requests made by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s son for the post of President of the Republic.
