Portuguese international Joao Felix returned to training this Friday with Atletico Madrid, the club with whom he has a contract until 2029 but who loaned him to Chelsea in the 2022/23 season and to Barcelona last season.
Felix, who moved from Benfica to Atletico in 2019 for more than 120 million euros, lost his place in the Colchoneros, especially in his third season, and was not an undisputed player at both Chelsea and Barça.
The 24-year-old striker has never shown the consistency to make a name for himself as he did at Benfica under Bruno Lage, and has played just two games in Euro 2024 qualifying, one as a starter in a defeat to Georgia and another in a Bank exit against France.
It seems that the player will not be included in the plans of coach Diego Simeone, with whom he has a difficult relationship, similar to what is happening with the fans of the Madrid team, who insulted him in the summer of 2023.
This Friday, in the first session, as usual, Felix worked separately and did specific work after a three-week holiday following Portugal’s exit from the European Championship, in the quarter-finals against France.
Doubts remain over the Portuguese’s future and the press has expressed interest from Aston Villa as well as Benfica.
