Goncalo Rodriguez has become the new secretary of state for agriculture, it was announced on Tuesday.
In a note published on the website of the President of the Republic, it is reported that the inauguration of the new Secretary of State for Agriculture will be this Wednesday, at 17:45, at the Belen Palace.
“The President of the Republic has accepted the proposal of the Prime Minister to appoint Prof. Dr. Goncalo Rodriguez as the new Minister of Agriculture,” reads a note posted on the President’s website.
Gonzalo Calea Rodríguez will replace Carla Alves, who resigned on January 5, hours after taking office following a trial involving her husband and former mayor Viñais.
Gonzalo Calea Rodriguez was born in Porto in 1981. He holds a PhD in Biosystems Engineering from the Institute of Agronomy and a PhD in Management from the Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon.
The new Secretary of State was vice president of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, where he was assistant professor.
The position of agriculture minister has been vacant since January 5, when Carla Alves resigned 25 hours after taking office.
Carla Alves justified the lack of “political and personal conditions” for taking office after reporting the seizure of joint bank accounts she had with her husband.
