The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, welcomed this Monday in Alcácer do Sal (Setúbal) the measures announced by the Government for the Armed Forces, considering them “very important, very urgent and very fair”.
“They were very important, very urgent and very fair, to begin to restore the situations that had worsened in recent years, leading to dismissals from all branches of the Armed Forces or difficulties in joining, since it was not considered that the Military Statute did not correspond to the importance of the mission carried out,” he said.
The President of the Republic spoke to journalists in Alcácer do Sal after the opening ceremony of the National Camp, attended by 1,500 young girls from different parts of the country, organised by the Portuguese Guides Association, which has been awarded the Public Instruction Order prize.
On Thursday, the prime minister announced an immediate increase in the military allowance to €300, followed by an annual increase of €50 until January 2026, until it reaches €400.
