Stable economic sentiment in July in the eurozone and the EU

The economic sentiment indicator remained broadly stable in July in the European Union (0.1 EU point, to 96.4) and the eurozone (-0.1 point, to 97.8), according to data released by the European Commission on Tuesday.

The employment expectations indicator, by contrast, fell both in the 27 Member States as a whole (-1.6 points, to 98.7) and among euro area countries (-1.8 points, to 97.8), falling below its long-term average for the first time since April 2021 in both areas.

According to the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the Community executive, among the EU’s largest economies, economic sentiment deteriorated sharply in France (-2.2) and Poland (-1.8), with a slight decline in the Netherlands (-0.2 points), while improving strongly in Spain (1.7) and, to a lesser extent, in Italy (0.4) and Germany (+0.2).

The European bloc saw a decline in confidence in the services and retail sectors in July, offset by a rise in confidence among consumers and the construction sector, which remained unchanged in manufacturing.
