The Labour Minister on Tuesday guaranteed the government would not propose a minimum wage increase before the issue had been discussed in a public consultation and he was not concerned that the next meeting would be close to the budget.
“The government does not expect anything at all regarding this issue, since this issue will first be discussed in the social consultations,” said the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Ramalho, speaking to journalists at the end of the social consultation in Lisbon.
The civil servant also assured that she is not concerned about the “deadlines”, even considering that the next public consultation will take place shortly before the presentation of the next state budget.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 11.
“This government has already done more in the area of social consultation than any other government has done in a much longer period of time,” he stressed.
Leaving the meeting, Mário Mourão of the UGT had already stated that the issue of raising the minimum wage beyond the agreed 855 euros had not yet been discussed.
However, the union leader added that at the meeting “nobody said anything different.”
CGTP Secretary General Thiago Oliveira said there was a commitment that the next social consultation would begin to discuss issues such as wages and budgetary measures.
