This Wednesday, the CDS-PP called for an independent verification of the results of the presidential elections in Venezuela and condemned what it calls the “dictatorial violence” carried out by the regime of Nicolás Maduro, which it considers “a desperate attempt to hide the truth”.
In a statement, the CDS-PP said it was following “the calls of the vast majority of countries not only in the Western world but also in Latin and South America, which, in addition to their political orientations, demand access to electoral truth and verification that does not depend on the results of the presidential elections in Venezuela.”
According to the party, without this verification, “democracy in Venezuela will not be achieved, and public peace and tranquility will not be achieved by all those Venezuelans who legitimately demand that their voices be respected.”
“The SRS-PP, in line with the international community, calls for immediate and verified access to all electoral documents as the only way to ensure the greatest possible transparency of the elections, as well as an immediate end to all acts of violence,” it reads.
The party condemns what it considers “the dictatorial violence created in Venezuela by the Nicolás Maduro regime in order to prevent access to the minutes of the various electoral tables where the vote took place.”
“The acts of aggression and repression carried out against the people themselves are a clear sign of what the Venezuelan president intends to avoid and the truth expressed at the polls,” the party asserts, adding that the protests witnessed “represent a just reaction by the Venezuelan people, limited in their legitimate right to decide their own destiny.”
“We can conclude that Nicolás Maduro’s reaction and the police repression reflect a desperate and unacceptable attempt to hide the truth about the election results,” he says.
The CDS also expresses its solidarity with “all Venezuelan democrats” and expresses “deep respect for the risks they take to defend freedom.”
“Finally, as has happened in the past, the CDS-PP advocates the preparation of a plan for assistance and evacuation of the country’s citizens if necessary in light of changing circumstances,” it said.
Since Monday, protests have been taking place in various regions of the country in Venezuela, resulting in at least 11 deaths and 750 arrests, against the results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
On Monday, Venezuela’s CNE officially declared Nicolás Maduro president for the 2025-2031 term, winning 51.2% of the vote, receiving 5.15 million votes.
According to CNE, the main opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, won just under 4.5 million votes (44.2%).
However, the Venezuelan opposition is claiming victory in the presidential elections, having won 70% of the vote for González Urrutia, opposition leader María Corina Machado said, refusing to accept the results announced by the CNE.
