The Faro Department of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) has charged the man with 265 crimes related to sexual abuse of children and 11,139 crimes related to pornography of minors, the Public Ministry (MP) announced on Wednesday.
The charge was brought by the 1st Section of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Faro, and the detainee, 31, is accused of inducing children aged around 13 to engage in sexual practices that he then filmed, the Public Ministry said in a statement from the Évora Attorney General’s Office.
“The accused, a resident of Faro, knew the male victims, aged around 13, through social networks and organised sexual encounters with them,” the MP said.
The suspect was the subject of a search warrant at his home in the Algarve capital, and authorities found “videos and photographs on computer media of minors of both sexes, but predominantly men, engaged in sexual relations with men,” the same source said.
After the first judicial interrogation, the suspect was placed in preventive detention.
