The Public Security Police (PSP) announced on Thursday the arrest of two suspects in an attack on a nightclub in Leiria that took place in June.
In a statement, the PSP explained that on June 16 at 00:00 “it received a report of attacks by several citizens at a nightclub in the city of Leiria”, subsequently establishing that “as a result of the attacks, one of them was killed and seriously wounded”.
The 32-year-old victim was hospitalised for “at least three weeks” and underwent surgery, police said.
According to the PSP, the investigation identified four citizens aged 24 to 29 “suspected of violent attacks.” Two of the suspects were declared accused on July 12.
The other two, suspected of serious crimes against physical integrity, were arrested on Monday in Leiria and Porto de Mós under an off-site arrest warrant and in coordination with the Leiria Department of Investigation and Criminal Affairs.
Those present at the first judicial interrogation of the defendants were subjected to coercive measures prohibiting contact with the victim and witness, handing over their passports, and appearing at the police station at their place of residence twice a week.
A PSP source told Lusa that the attacks may have started inside the nightclub and continued outside.
