Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a “short-range projectile” fired at his Tehran residence in an operation Iran blames on Israel, the Revolutionary Guards announced Saturday.
“According to the investigation and inquiry, this terrorist operation was carried out by launching a short-range projectile with a warhead weighing about seven kilograms from outside the guest house. [provocando] “a strong explosion,” the Islamic Republic’s ideological army said in a statement published by the official IRNA news agency.
Haniyeh, who was buried in Qatar on Friday, rose to prominence in 2006 when he was appointed prime minister of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) following Hamas’ surprise victory in legislative elections.
