On Saturday, the GNR checked more than 100 motorcycles and registered 47 administrative offences during an operation to combat illegal racing between Santo Tirso and Paços de Ferreira in the district of Porto, police said this Monday.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate statement clarified that of the 47 administrative violation reports, 15 were related to tires, civil liability insurance and lack of documents, and five were related to drunk driving.
In addition, the military confiscated 27 motorcycles that had undergone an unscheduled inspection due to changes in their characteristics, he said.
As part of the operation, the 34-year-old man was also charged with dangerous driving, he said.
This inspection action is aimed at combating illegal motorcycle racing and preventing road accidents, GNR explained.
The operation, which involved 40 soldiers, took place between 3pm and 9pm and was based on complaints about illegal races that took place between Santo Tirso and Paços de Ferreira last year, a PNP source told Luce.
In 2024, in the Porto Territorial Command area of responsibility, the GNR recorded more than 755 road accidents involving at least one motorcycle or moped, resulting in 19 deaths, 34 serious injuries and 560 minor injuries.
