PS wants access to open and closed gynecology and emergency obstetrics charts

This Thursday, PS demanded that the government provide access to the number of operations performed until July, as well as the number of users on the waiting list and daily cards of open and closed emergency gynecological and obstetric services.

In a request addressed to the Ministry of Health through the Assembly of the Republic, Parliamentary Leader Alexandra Leitão and MPs Mariana Vieira da Silva and João Paulo Correia also ask that the SNS internet portal “resume the regular and complete publication of all the information it has provided”, which, according to them, was interrupted last December.

However, since “this is more specific information,” they also require “the number of surgeries performed per month between January 2023 and July 2024, with the total cost and number of oncology surgeries.”

The number of users on the waiting list for surgery, also per month and for the same period (from January 2023 to July 2024), with a breakdown of the corresponding values (total and oncological surgery) for the set of users inside and outside the time of the maximum guaranteed response, is another piece of information that the Socialist MPs want to have access to.

The PS parliamentarians also want to know the “daily maps of open, closed and reference emergencies in gynecology and obstetrics, following the calendar logic, in the order in which this information was published, until March 2024, by the Executive Directorate of the SNS”, in this case the information covers the period from 1 April to 31 July 2024.

In June, the Ministry of Health ensured that maps indicating which gynaecology/obstetrics emergency departments were open in mainland Portugal were updated “at least once a day” and that SNS24/INEM was updated “up to the minute”.

At the time, the health minister acknowledged the card system could contain “some errors” but sought to convey a message of calm.

“In fact, the system is still not working properly and we had some errors yesterday. [sexta-feira]”The tests are being carried out. I hope that next week the General Services of the Ministry of Health will be able to receive this information, which is dynamic and increasingly sophisticated,” said Ana Paula Martins.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new format was developed for the “immediate and rapid dissemination” of schedules of available emergency services, although due to “insurmountable restrictions” this data may change periodically.
