The government approved an investment of 65 million euros in a clinical care centre in Porto. The Council of Ministers also discussed measures to promote employment.

Presidential Minister António Leitão Amaru spoke after the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday.

The meeting took place in the presence of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in the new Government House. Some ministries are now located in the former headquarters of Caixa Geral de Depósitos.

The health issues, a topic on the agenda, deserve the comment of the Minister of the Presidency, who announced an investment of 65 million euros in a clinical care center in Porto to treat less serious cases and relieve emergencies. The agreement, approved this Thursday, was concluded with the Prelada Hospital in Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto.

Lieutenant Amaro reiterated the idea that it is impossible to “promise a solution to a problem.” [dos problemas na Saúde] in 60 days”, given the “very delicate” situation in which the previous government left the health sector, the minister explained.

Measures to promote employment

This Thursday, the government approved a €300 million employment package aimed at skilled young people, with the aim of retaining talent in the country and immigrants.

“We are setting the total cost of this set of new measures at approximately 300 million euros, and these 300 million already correspond to the funds of the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training itself. [IEFP]”which comes from European funds,” said the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosario Palma Ramalho, at a press conference following the meeting of the Council of Ministers at Campus XXI in Lisbon.

According to a government official, the +Employment measure to support the unemployed is allocated 135 million euros, while the Talento+ measure to support more qualified young people costs around 100 million and is divided into two measures, one to support internships and the other to support employment for up to 24 months.
