Montenegro promises results in SNS next summer

Together with the President of the Republic, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro visited this Thursday the new maternity ward of the Santa Maria Hospital, and in a time of tension in emergency situations, the head of government set the goal: “We hope that next summer we will not have the problems that we have had this year and in recent years.”

The promise made after the visit was a response to the National Health Service (NHS) emergency plan, which after two months of implementation had completed only two of 54 measures. The scenario was discounted by Montenegro, which said the health care restructuring was “going as hard as we expected” given the “very bad starting point.”

“There are no failures, there is satisfaction. We are achieving all our goals,” the social democrat assured, noting that he does not promise to “do everything day after day.”

Upon arrival at the hospital in Lisbon, the President of the Republic promised to listen to what the government had to say. He did, and in the end he left a warning that “solutions must be found so that this situation does not happen again,” calling on Montenegro to make him “further invitations in the coming weeks and months to monitor” the application of the emergency plan.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa ruled out giving a sign of support to the Democratic Alliance (AD) government, recalling that he “has taken over the previous government many times in the face of many problems, and I do not regret anything”, stressing that if the President of the Republic can complement the executive power, “then you should do it”.

During her visit to Santa Maria, the Minister of Health, who was once the administrator of this hospital center, was next to the heads of state and government and in her speech rejected the criticism she had received about the emergency plan: “Only through bad faith or ignorance can they say that the measures are not being implemented,” said the minister, highlighting the end of the telephone line for pregnant women and the reduction of the waiting list for cancer operations, stating the goal of “making social networks attractive again.”

AND ALSO

COUNTER-CRITICISM
Presidential Minister António Leitão Amaro said Thursday that “nobody in good faith” can believe that the government will be able to solve health problems in four months. “This is the problem that the government faces after 3,050 days of government incapacity,” the ruler stressed after a meeting of the Council of Ministers.

EMERGENCY CARD
This Thursday, PS demanded that the government provide access to a map of open and closed emergency cases in gynecology and obstetrics, as well as operations performed before July and the number of users on the waiting list, according to a request sent to the Ministry of Health.
