Fuel prices see strong relief

Fuel prices will fall again next week, industry sources told Negócios, with diesel falling by two cents and gasoline by three and a half cents.

This week, average prices in the country rose below market expectations. According to the daily survey of the General Directorate of Energy and Geology, the price of a litre of simple diesel was around 1,544 euros, while a litre of simple petrol 95 was 1,713 euros, including discounts for those with membership cards and offers from petrol stations. Given the expected price reductions for next week, the average price of simple diesel filled at petrol stations should be 1,524 euros per litre, while the average price of simple petrol 95 should be around 1,678 euros per litre.

These averages already include budget cuts made by the previous government when fuel prices soared as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The cost of fuel at the petrol station will always vary depending on the petrol station, the brand and the area where it is located.

North Sea Brent crude, the benchmark for European imports, held on to trade at $79.64 a barrel yesterday, heading for its first weekly gain after four weeks of declines.

Anticipation of a possible escalation of conflict in the Middle East could put upward pressure on fuel prices.
