Rehabilitation and correctional services technicians strike during overtime work

The Union of Technical Specialists of the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Service began an overtime strike at 00:00 this Saturday until December 31.

The union also planned a total strike for August 13 and 14, with picketing in front of the Belém Palace.

The president of the Union of Technical Specialists of the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Services (SINDGRSP), Miguel Gonçalves, told Lusa this Saturday that the shift will last 16 hours, which is how many years they have been waiting to resume their careers.

According to the unionist, the strike of August 13 and 14, with the guarantee of a minimum service and the vigil in front of the Belém Palace, serve to show the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the problems that these technicians face and that “the social reintegration of prisoners cannot be a mere cliché.”

The overtime strike will begin at 00:00 this Saturday and end at 23:59 on December 31. It involves workers in technical specialties of the General Directorate of Reintegration and Penitentiary Services, professional social reintegration specialists (TPRS) and senior technical specialists (TS).

Miguel Gonçalves states that this strike “implies that the recipient organizations transfer the services provided by workers with the unrevised profession, TPRS, TSRS, TSR and TS magazines, to carry out these functions in the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Services.”

The reasons for the strike are related to the revision and increase of wages on the career ladder in 2024 (for a special single career) and the payment of additional payments (burden, risk and deprivation) to all employees.

The union guarantees that during an overtime strike, “safety and maintenance of equipment and premises are provided at minimum services where justified.”
