Some men experience a supposed increase in penis size during the summer. In a British newspaper Sundoctor Chun Tang has clarified the phenomenon, colloquially known as the “summer penis,” which “does not officially exist in clinical terms.”
“In the warmer months, especially in hot and humid weather, the heat causes the blood vessels to dilate a little,” Chun Tang explained. According to the expert, “Some men notice that their penis appears a little larger, especially when it is flaccid.”
The organ “may feel a little more relaxed than usual” due to the increased blood flow, but this is all just “the body’s way of trying to cool itself down naturally.”
This circumstance does not affect a man’s sexual activity, since “in an erect state the penis is already maximally swollen,” added doctor Sarah Jarvis.
To “minimize the effect,” Chun Tang recommends that men “avoid excessive heat exposure, wear loose clothing and maintain good hydration.”
