Today, five hospitals are closed, most of which are gynecological and obstetric.

A&E services at five hospitals, almost all of which are gynaecology and obstetrics services, closed on Friday, according to the National Health Service (SNS).

According to information published on the SNS portal at 9am, six emergency departments in five hospitals were closed, almost all in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley area and only one in the central area.

The Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro is the only hospital that has closed two emergency services: obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics.

The Dr. Manoel Constancio Hospital (Abrantes), the Caldas da Rainha Distribution Hospital and the Santo André Hospital (Leiria) have closed their obstetrics and gynaecology departments.
The Beatriz Angelo Hospital (Loures) is closing its pediatric emergency department this Friday.
The obstetrics service at Santa Maria Hospital is available throughout the day to receive patients recommended by the National Institute of Emergency Medicine.
The pediatric service at the Fernando Fonseca Hospital (Amadora-Sintra) is available from 00:00 to 08:00 and from 20:00 to 24:00, while the emergency obstetrics and gynecology department of the same health facility has the same restrictions from 00:00 and 24:00.
Further north, the Children’s Emergency Department at the Viseu Local Health Unit’s Extra Paediatric Services (ULS) sees calls between 8.15pm and 11pm.
During these periods, the services classified as mentioned are reserved for internal emergencies and cases referred by the Patient Emergency Care Centre (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) and through the SNS 24 line.
