Joao Felix joins Chelsea

Chelsea officially signed Joao Felix this Wednesday. The Portugal international is leaving Atletico Madrid and has signed a six-year contract with the Blues until 2030, with the option of an additional year. The London club paid around €50 million for the transfer, with Colconcheros still retaining 20% of the forward’s transfer.

It’s a return to a home he knows, as Joao Felix has already represented Chelsea in the second half of the 2022/23 season, scoring four goals in 20 games for the Blues.

After a summer spent with much uncertainty surrounding him, during which he was appointed to Aston Villa and Benfica, Felix has been involved in Diego Simeone’s team training in recent weeks and was called up for the first round of the Spanish league, but was eventually dropped.

Felix leaves Atletico Madrid five years after costing the Colchoneros €127 million, a period that included half a season on loan at Chelsea and a year at Barcelona.

Under the technical guidance of Diego Simeone, the 24-year-old Portugal international won the Spanish championship in 2021 and represented the club in 131 games, scoring 34 goals and making 18 assists.

“I am very happy to be back at Chelsea and I can’t wait to get started. I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and I have told my friends and family that I would like to return to the Premier League one day. To be able to do that now and still be higher up with Chelsea is very good, I am very happy to be back,” Joao Felix said in a statement released by the Blues.
