Former Porto player Christian Atsu was found dead this Saturday under rubble left by the earthquakes that rocked Turkey on February 6. However, this story could have had a very different ending, since everything depended on a plane ticket … which the Ghanaian even bought.
The story in question was told to Radiospor by Hatayspor team manager Fatih Ilek before the body of the Ghanaian was found lifeless. “Before the earthquakes and the meeting with Gaziantep, Atsu told the coach [Volkan Demirel] I wanted more playing time. He asked if he could leave if he found an interested club,” he began with an explanation.
And he continued: “The coach agreed. He was going to go to his family but Demirel gave him an opportunity in the match against Kasimpasi and Atsu played very well and even scored [o golo da vitória] at the last second. There was such a great unity after the game… He [Atsu] he had a plane ticket, but he decided to stay because he played well,” he explained.
Atsu, remember, has been missing since February 6th.
