A woman in her 40s was rescued this morning from the sea in Porto Pim Bay, on the island of Faial, in the Azores, by members of the local command of the Horta Marine Police, it was announced this Sunday.
According to the National Maritime Authority, following an alert received at 00:20 local time (01:20 in Lisbon), “through a nearby member of the public who reported the existence of a person missing at sea, they were immediately activated for local units of the Horta Local Maritime Police Command.”
“Upon arrival at the scene, a person was spotted in the water and members of the Horta Local Marine Police Command rescued the victim and took him to the sandy beach of Porto Pim,” he added.
According to the report, the woman was assisted by marine police officers who performed resuscitation measures until the arrival of Orta volunteer firefighters, who later took her to the hospital department.
The local command of the Horta Marine Police claimed responsibility for the incident.
The Lusa agency unsuccessfully tried to obtain information about the woman’s health condition from the hospital and the Horta volunteer fire department.
