According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), more than 50 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Vila Real, Viseu and Bragança are at maximum risk of rural fires this Tuesday.
IPMA has also placed several municipalities in all districts of mainland Portugal at very high fire risk.
The highest maximum temperature forecast for today will be reached in Evora with 36 degrees Celsius, followed by Castelo Branco and Beja with 35, Bragança with 34 and Santarem with 32.
IPMA estimates that fire danger will remain in some areas until at least Thursday.
This risk, defined by IPMA, has five levels, from low to maximum. Calculations are made on the basis of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of precipitation over the past 24 hours.
IPMA forecasts variable cloudiness to clear skies, mostly light winds, fog or morning mist and a slight decrease in maximum temperatures in the western northern and central regions across the continent today.
Minimum temperatures will range from 12 degrees (in Braga) to 22 degrees (in Faro), and maximum temperatures from 22 (in Aveiro) to 36 degrees (in Evora).
