Former coach Sven-Goran Eriksson dies

Sven-Goran Eriksson, the former Benfica football coach who suffered from terminal cancer, died on Monday at the age of 76.

In January, the former Swedish coach revealed he had “at best” a year to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

In his final days, Eriksson left a farewell message: “I think we all fear the day we die, but life is also connected to death. I hope you remember me as a positive person who always tried his best. Don’t be sad, smile. Thank you to everyone, coaches, players, fans. It’s been amazing. Take care of yourself and your life… goodbye,” the Swede said in the documentary “Amazon Prime”. life.

The Swede had a successful career playing for clubs such as Lazio, Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Roma, Manchester City, Leicester City, as well as Benfica, where he played from 1982/83 to 1983/84 and from 1989/90 to 1991.92 As a selector, he managed England, Mexico, the Ivory Coast and the Philippines, his final role being as a coach.
