Adolfo Callisto, former Benfica and national team player, died on Thursday at the age of 80.
The player arrived at Benfica when he was 23 years old after playing for Barreirense and Seixal. He played 142 games for the Eagles between 1967 and 1975 in the First Division. He played for the national team 15 times.
Adolfo Callisto shared the team with such famous footballers as Eusebio, Nene, Manuel Bento, Toni, Humberto Coelho, Rui Jordao, José Torres and Mario Coluna.
After leaving Benfica, he played for Portimonense, Gruppa União Sport and Alcaines.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica regrets the death of its former player, Adolfo Calisto, a versatile defender who distinguished himself in the sixties and seventies when he represented the club. He was recruited in 1967 and played 311 games for Benfica until 1975, when he moved to Portimonense,” Benfica said.
