The President of the Republic said that the situation with the interned military looks different than in 2016

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, said this Sunday that the case of the soldier interned in Lisbon appears to be “completely different” from what happened six years ago, when two young men died during an exercise.

“An investigation is underway, but it may happen that the situation is very different from the previous one,” Marcelo Rebelo de Souza said today during a visit to the Lisbon Book Fair.

A commando soldier was admitted to Curry Cabral Hospital on Saturday after an operation that resulted in a liver transplant that “finished this morning” and “went well,” according to the President of the Republic, who is Supreme Commander of the Navy.

Marcelo stressed that six years ago “everything was much more dramatic” as there were deaths.

What’s more, he added, it was now “cardiovascular shutdown during eating, which is different from training.”

Marcelo once again stressed that the case is being investigated and we need to wait.

“Let’s wait for the investigation. Several hypotheses were put forward, which, if tested, will differ from the situation in 2016,” the President emphasized.

The President of the Republic has already issued a note today saying that he is monitoring the health of the military interned in Lisbon and reports that this commando trainee has had a transplant.

The memo was published on the official website of the President after the General Staff of the Army ordered the 138th Command Course to be interrupted on Saturday until the process of investigating this formation was determined, in which two soldiers were hospitalized, one had to undergo a liver transplant.

“By the decree of the Chief of the General Staff of the Ground Forces, the activities of the 138th command course are suspended until the conclusions of the Investigative Process and the Emergency Technical Inspectorate on conducting combat training activities are received,” the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces said. army.

On Wednesday, two servicemen of this course were hospitalized, one of them, who received respiratory arrest, however, has already been discharged.

On Wednesday afternoon, a soldier who was attending this commando course “felt unwell” during a “five-kilometer march” in the Serra da Carregueira commando regiment in the Lisbon area, according to the army.
