The funeral of a baby who died in the sixth month of pregnancy will take place on Sunday, after his mother accused the Cascais hospital of “medical failure”.
The General Inspectorate for Health Activities (IGAS) has opened a case against the hospital department. The Health Regulatory Authority (ERS) has also initiated a process to assess the facts surrounding the assistance provided to the user on 16 August.
Diana Oliveira, 37, had “heavy bleeding and discharge.” The doctor treating her performed an ultrasound and found “the baby was fine, but it was already precocious and the placenta had dropped,” the father said.
On August 21, Diana felt a heavy feeling in her stomach and realized something was wrong. He returned to the emergency room of Cascais Hospital, where it was confirmed that “there was little fluid in the bag, the heartbeat had disappeared and the baby was dead.”
