300,000 Tel Aviv protesters demand ceasefire in Gaza

Some 300,000 people took to the streets of Tel Aviv overnight to protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the death of six hostages in the Gaza Strip sparked protests across the country.

“If my government does not do everything in its power to get the hostages back, even if it means paying a very high price, I don’t think this country can continue to exist,” Tal Horowitz, 45, told EFE, lamenting his insecurity as an Israeli after nearly 11 months of war in Gaza and with 97 prisoners still being held in Gaza by Islamist militants Hamas.

News that six hostages whose bodies were found by the army in a tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip were all killed by “multiple shots at close range” just 48 to 72 hours earlier, according to autopsy results released by the Health Ministry, has angered Israelis who believe a ceasefire would have prevented the deaths.
