Two armed men shot and killed seven people, including a 12-year-old girl, in a billiard room in Sinop, the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. The massacre occurred on Tuesday and was allegedly carried out after one of the shooters lost two games of snooker in a row and became the butt of jokes.
The killers are on the loose, but their identities have already been established. They are Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, 30, and Ezekias Souza Ribeiro, 27.
According to police, Oliveira gambled against one of the victims in the morning and lost 4,000 reais (about 730 euros). In the afternoon, he returned with Ezekias and challenged the same opponent again, again losing. The humiliation of defeat and the jokes of those present hastened the massacre.
They took a rifle and a pistol out of the car, leaned those present against the wall and shot them in cold blood. Before escaping, one of the killers even took a stack of banknotes lying on the gaming table.
