Historic socialist Rui Cunha, Founding Deputy and Deputy Secretary of State to the Minister of Labor and Solidarity (from 1999 to 2001) and Social Security (from 1995 to 1999), died this Thursday in Lisbon at the age of 78, according to a family source.
Born in Lisbon, Rui António Ferreira da Cunha joined the Mário Soares party in 1974, being a member of the Constituent Assembly (1975-1976) and a member of the Assembly of the Republic in the I Legislative Assembly (1978), in the V Legislature (since 1989) and in the VII legislature (1995).
According to the biography available on the Parliament page, Rui Cunha was a member of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, a member of the National Commission and the Political Commission of the PS, and a member of the XIII and XIV governments (from 1995 to 2002).
The socialist militant was also the supplier of Santa Casa da Misericordia in Lisbon in 2005, replacing María José Nogueira Pinta.
