SDP President Luis Montenegro this Friday defended an investigation of all Russian investments in Portugal “until its last ramification” with the necessary consequences.
“I don’t have specific information about this, but I believe that all these operations should be investigated to their last ramifications and, of course, should have consequences,” he responded.
Luis Montenegro spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the opening of the 30th Chestnut Festival in Sernancelle, Viseu district, about evidence of money laundering in Portugal by Russian citizens who escaped European Union (EU) sanctions.
“The sanctions mechanism adopted by the EU against Russia is a fundamental instrument of pressure on the Russian Federation to resolve this absurd conflict, this shameful conflict of invading Ukraine with all the horror that has spread across the territory.” , he thought.
In this sense, the SDP leader stated that “everything that the EU states can do to implement these sanctions and prevent such abusive actions is not enough.”
Luis Montenegro said that this is also not much, if we take into account the “attack on the most elementary values of human dignity and democracy, which Russia is waging on Ukrainian territory.”
CNN Portugal reported today that “a lot of evidence of very serious involvement, big money involved” in the “luxury investments of Russians in Portugal” has been found.
