The mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, responded this Friday to a charge of malfeasance brought by the Ministry of Public Administration.
“This investigation investigated facts that took place, in general, more than 15 years ago,” the mayor began with a statement.
Isaltino Morais denied that searches were carried out at his home, as well as at his office in the municipality of Oeiras.
“There have never been any searches in my house or in my office in the ward.”
Regarding the establishment of the two public-private partnerships discussed in the process, Isaltino Morais said that “they were preceded by an open tender to select a private partner and a completely independent jury.”
The mayor assured that he has not yet taken any part “in the whole process of creating the above-mentioned partners, except that he was the chairman of the Chamber at the date of their creation.”
The mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, the former mayor of Odivelas, Susana Amador, and the former mayor of Mafra, Minister dos Santos, were accused by the State Ministry of political evasion.
The crime of evading political office is punishable by imprisonment for a term of two to eight years.
According to the September 22 indictment, former mayor of Oeiras Paulo Vistas (then vice mayor of the municipality), chairman of the board of directors of the company MGR – Engenharia e Construction Fernando Gouveia and chairman of the board of directors of the consulting company FSCD Social Formation and Development Co., Marco Carreiro.
