Severe frosts leave mainland Portugal under yellow warning

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), seventeen of the 18 districts on the continent will remain under a yellow alert until Friday due to a cold weather forecast, with five areas expected to experience below freezing minimum temperatures on Wednesday.

The warning for the areas of Bragança, Viseu, Evora, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Setubal, Santarem, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga will last until 10:00. Fridays due to low minimum temperatures.

Bragança and Guarda (-5 degrees Celsius), Viseu and Vila Real (-3) and Braga (-1) are areas with negative minimum temperatures.

Minimum temperatures on the continent will range from -5 (in Guarda and Bragança) to 5 (in Faro and Lisbon) and maximums from 4 (in Guarda) to 16 (in Faro) this Wednesday.

IPMA also issued an orange warning for the western group of the Azores (Corvo and Flores) due to rough seas from 09:00 this Wednesday until 00:00 Thursday, then changing to yellow until 09:00 that day. .

The western group is also under a yellow warning until 12:00 this Wednesday due to strong winds.

IPMA has also issued a yellow rough seas warning from 12:00 Wednesday to 06:00 Thursday for the central group (Graciosa, Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge and Terceira) of the Azores.

The bad weather that is felt in the Azores is associated with the passage of the Camiel depression.

An orange warning indicates a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk, and a yellow warning is issued by IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain meteorologically dependent activities.
