The CP train was stopped for more than an hour between Sete Rios and Benfica stations in the direction of Lisbon-Sintra, with hundreds of passengers on the line to Benfica station in a safety corridor created by PSP. Some passengers are being helped by the Sapadores and INEM crews, mostly due to breathing problems (they complained they couldn’t breathe on the train) as well as anxiety and panic attacks.
The train was overcrowded as there were very few train runs due to the strike.
The train came to a halt due to the train’s emergency mechanical brake being activated due to overcrowding on the train at 19:40. Passengers then opened the doors to “breathe”.
Units of the Lisbon Regiment of Fire Engineers helped remove passengers from the line. From there, the PSP set up a security cordon to the Benfica station. The movement of trains in both directions was stopped, but in the meantime resumed.
