The Judicial Police (SP) this Thursday detained two women, aged 66 and 39, on suspicion of committing the crime of qualified fraud, usurpation of functions and aggravated assault of physical integrity resulting in death, who claimed to have a medical title and deceived patients. lives in Portugal, PJ said in a statement.
According to the SP, the women posed as doctors or medical professionals with scientific degrees and promised people, including children, and animals effective treatment for a number of common and serious diseases.
The detainees used “alternative medicine practices operated in premises that functioned as treatment clinics, which, in addition to caring for alleged patients, also produced, processed, divided and stored alleged homeopathic medicines and conventional medicines, some injectables.” PJ said in a statement.
The women, in exchange for money, promised a cure and offered to abandon traditional treatments such as chemotherapy, providing therapy and “drugs” not registered or allowed in the country, produced by themselves.
During the course of the police operation, the SP identified several patients and victims of this practice, in particular cancer patients and some already deceased.
Representatives of Infarmed, a health regulatory body and a representative of the Order of Psychologists, participated in these steps.
One of the women has Portuguese citizenship and the other is a foreigner, but both live in the south of the country.
The detainees will be present at the first judicial interrogation about the application of coercive measures.
