Government meets with Independent Commission on Sexual Harassment in Church

The Ministers of Justice and Labour, Solidarity and Welfare met THIS FRIDAY with the Independent Commission for the Study of Sexual Violence in the Catholic Church to review the “meaning” and “scope” of the proposals contained in the final report.

In a released statement from the Department of Justice, Catarina Sarmento i Castro and the Department of Labor, Ana Mendez Godinho, said the meeting took place at the request of the government to analyze the meaning and scope of some of the proposals of the Give Silence a Voice report.

“Following these proposals, some further lines of action have already been considered,” they announce in the document, stating, first of all, for greater protection of child victims of crimes against freedom and self-determination, the intention to “give continuation of the legislative procedure already begun” about the beginning of the statute of limitations for crimes against freedom and sexual self-determination against children.
