Pedro Pichardo is a two-time European Indoor Athletics Champion with a new national record.

This Friday, Pedro Pablo Pichardo became a two-time European champion in the indoor triple jump with a brilliant win in Istanbul. In the Turkish capital, in addition to leaving competitors far behind – the second was more than a meter away! – The 29-year-old Portuguese-Cuban athlete managed to significantly improve the national indoor record, surpassing it by 17.60 meters (12 centimeters more than the mark he set the day before).

After qualifying for 17.48m, which established him on a planet unlike any other, Pichardo entered the competition with 17.26m, immediately setting a mark that no one else could even come close to. With the comfort that gold is practically guaranteed, the Portuguese abandoned the second jump before flying in the third (with a perfect challenge) to the mark that won him gold: 17.60 meters, a new national indoor record.

At the same competition, Thiago Pereira was on the verge of a medal, finishing fourth with 16.51 metres, his best result of the season. Only 6 centimeters from the bronze, won by the German Max Heb, was the Portuguese from the top three, and 7 centimeters from the silver of Nikolaos Andrikopoulos.
